BWaaah. I’m tired. But still got so much stuff to get done.
This chapter’s fairly short, only 34 pages long. Likely because Araki-sensei is doing a Thus Spoke Kishibe Rohan one-shot in Bessatsu Margaret next month, an issue which comes out on the 13th.
Though he’s not taking a break or anything like he did last time he did a Rohan one-shot. So we’ll see you next month.
We’re gonna try MAYBE to do more volume scanlations of older volumes of JoJolion, we’ll see if that works out. WE haven’t done more than the 2 we did a while ago because of lack of cleaners. Usually it’s all the JoJolion team can do to get the new chapter and the higher-quality magazine version of the chapter done every month. I’m also FINALLY almost done with The Book, the Part 4 novel. We’re working on editing it and hope to get that out within a few weeks.
Ok, at last, this one’s done. Goddamn this took a while.
Sp for those that don’t know, this is a one-shot by Shimabukuro Mitsutoshi (author of Toriko and Takeshi) that he published in the kids/kodomo manga magazine Saikyou Jump back in April. They don’t have a digital magazine or anyone that scans it so I had to seek out the magazine and scan it at the time and it’s been a project on my backlog for a while now (This actually came out like a week before Chingiri but that one was easier so I did it first). Largely because it’s a 30-page gag manga, and gag manga are known for having lots of text and lots of jokes on each page. Meaning it’s pretty translation heavy and time consuming. Then Joeabandonedmine was hard at work cleaning and typesetting it, which is a pretty lengthy task on its own.
Anyhow, at first I thought it was kinda dumb, and it is aimed towards kids, but it actually makes good use of Shimabukuro-sensei’s sense of humor. And it’s pretty interesting what he did with a simple premise. Check it out.
Also we’ve got the next chapter of Takeshi all done! It’s a good one. Really emotional and it’s starting up a lot of what makes the series really good. I’m hoping we can keep up a good pace with this series and keep getting it out. This is the 2nd to last chapter of the “Proof of a Leader Arc”. I’ll be working on getting the next one done sometime soon.
We’ve got a lot of other stuff going. The Book is being edited now, we’re working on the new JoJolion, and apparently Shimabukuro-sensei did a 15-page one shot about his memories with Oda-sensei (of One Piece) in this week’s Jump, which we may work on maybe. The next Innocent volume comes out in late August and the next 3-Gatsu no Lion volume comes out in October. So there’s a lot going on, and I really wanna get some of this stuff done while I’ve got time so I don’t get overwhelmed later. Hopefully when all this stuff’s done we can work on a new series, as there’s a few I’ve wanted to do for a while.
Here’s chapter 9 of Takeshi! Here’s the intro I wrote about the series if you haven’t seen it yet.
(If anyone’s wondering, there’s almost no fanart of this series because it was popular before Pixiv existed. It ended in 2005. And most fanart I can find is mostly filled with characters that haven’t appeared yet and I don’t want to post spoilers.)
Ok, so now finally we get the introduction of Bonchuu! He’s here and he’s definitely not Toriko.
Sorry it’s taken so long to get this up. I mentioned it in other posts but I’ve been focusing all my extra time and energy on getting The Book done, which is a long put-off and long delayed project. I finally finished translating it and it’s now being edited. I’m hoping we get it 100% done and released soon. With that major project done I’ll have time to get Takeshi chapters done more frequently. My goal is to get ~1 a week done but we’ll see how that turns out.
And now, on to volume 19. If you read V18 you’ll see the story’s getting a bit darker. That continues. There’s still plenty of comedy though.
We’re now 200 chapters in! Thanks as always to high8sky for all her work and getting these done. Some really good typesetting in this one. The typesetting of this series in Japanese gets crazier and crazier as the series goes on. It’s no easy task.
Ok, so quick update on stuff.
I finished translating The Book, finally, after 5 and a half years. And now it’s in the editing process, which is the last step before releasing it. I’m having a couple people read over it and help me edit it and improve some of the earlier parts which I did back in late 2011 early 2012 so the phrasing and such isn’t as good as my current level. Speaking of which, anyone with novel editing experience who wants to volunteer to help with that, let me know. My email’s firstname.lastname@example.org
Since I finished that I’m gonna try to get back to doing Takeshi chapters on a regular basis. Sorry it’s been so slow going, I’d really like to get them done regularly, but I haven’t really had the time between The Book, Jojolion, 81diver stuff, Innocent stuff, and Gintama every week.
I also wanna get that other Shimabukuro one-shot out soon that came out a few months ago in Saikyo Jump.
Also, the next 81diver volume should be out pretty soon. I’ve translated up to V23, so now that I’m finishing up The Book I’m hoping to get back to translating that series soon, as I’ve still got 12 volumes left.
Also, I did an interview with Kotaku about scanlating. If you’re interested in reading that sort of thing, it’s here.
Though they interviewed a bunch of people besides me, and most of the answers I gave weren’t used. Also I don’t think the title is very good, I don’t think most people they interviewed were “having trouble going legit”. That’s just NJT, the founder of Mangahelpers who has been trying to do that.
If you’re interested in the full response I gave to Kotaku’s questions, I made a pastebin for it here.
