#DRCL midnight children (One-Shot by Sakamoto Shinichi)

DRCL

Ok hey so here’s this!
This is a one-shot by Sakamoto Shinichi that is seemingly a sort of prequel to a new series he’s going to start next year called #DRCL Dracula midnight children. This one is using the digital magazine raw from the issue of Grand Jump that came out a few days ago. We’re only doing the magazine version here because we’re not sure if the one shot is going to be included as technically part of the full series. But anyhow, we’re planning to pick up this series and do it like we did with Innocent, with only using volume raws. I’ve talked about this on here before, but in case you don’t know and want to know, the reason for that is because the physical raws quality is WAAAAAY better and also we don’t really have time to do the series every 2 weeks or so, rather than a full volume we can take our time to get right about once or twice a year. This is seemingly going to be a bi-weekly series like Innocent was and the series proper starts January 21st. So look forward to that! Should be neat. I’m gonna read up on my Dracula.

Anyhow this one-shot itself is pretty cool. I hope you all enjoy it. It’s got a great gothic horror-y style along with the feel Innocent and Kokou no Hito had of characters that don’t fit into society. I hope ya’ll enjoy it!

Dorachuu (One-Shot by Sakamoto Shinichi)

Hey, so here’s something fun.
This is a one-shot manga self-published (a doujinshi) by Sakamoto Shinichi. The author of Innocent and Kokou no Hito, for those not aware.
This is the first project he’s done after Innocent ended. It was published in June. And it’s a short story about child vampires.

This book was a two-author project with him and Furuya Usamaru-sensei, the author of Litchi Hikari Club. He’s done a ton of shorter series and you can see more of the stuff he’s done here. We didn’t scanlate the story he did which was in this same book, which is a sort of autobiographical manga called “1985 Sodom”. If some other group wants to do that, be my guest though. We DID translate this little chat between the two of them at the end, if you wanna check that out.

Uh, so we may do more of these sorts of things if he does publish more (It ends with a “To be continued” at the bottom). This story is very simple and I think it’s more about the art. It’s around the length of a regular Innocent chapter.

I’ve got a couple other short things like this I’m trying to get done in the near future, so look forward to that. Otherwise I’m getting back to the same stuff we do regularly with Ikoku Nikki, Takeshi, and I’m trying to get 3-Gatsu v15 done.

Innocent Rouge Volume 12 (End)

Ok, we made it. We did it. Here we are, the final volume of Innocent is done. We’ve released the entire series. It’s been quite a ride. The series started in 2013, and I translated the whole thing. Working with a good number of other folks along the way. Thanks to all those involved that spent so many hours making this scanlation project a reality, and thanks so so much to Sakamoto Shinichi for making such a great series.

So yeah, this has been quite a long project and I really love this series. I really like the direction Sakamoto-sensei took with it, as it definitely seemed like quite a challenge to make a series where it had to span over 40-something years and follow actual historical events, while also focusing on a family of executioners. But he created some really interesting vignettes, some compelling characters, and some good themes. Doing a semi-realistic historical story you need to sometimes just suddenly introduce a character or a complicated political scenario, that’ll be around for a few chapters, and then they disappear. Or they show up and you don’t see them for volumes and then their setup gets a payoff. But it also dramatizes and fictionalized events, puts in events that probably didn’t happen (A lot of the Marie Antoinette stuff is based on the Stefan Zweig book and some of the Sanson stories are based on Henry-Clément Sanson’s probably largely ficticious book of memoirs) the story that got woven I think really worked, and was compelling despite its restrictions. The story is meant to be a “memoirs” of this period of history rather than a story of the entire French Revolution. It’s kind of a story from a couple of smaller perspectives. And through that you’re able to gain a sense of this period of time and how it felt living through it and being part of it. And it’s got some good themes of examining capital punishment, the nature of the French Revolution and it’s causes and ideals VS how things turned out, the divide of the rich and poor, all sorts of great stuff. Also the art’s incredible as everyone knows.

So my plan for now is I’ll probably work on Sakamoto Shinichi’s next series in a similar away, released in volumes, assuming it’s not immediately licensed or I just really hate it for some reason (The volumes are MUCH better quality than the digital or physical magazine for a manga this detailed). Or something else goes on in my life where I couldn’t sacrifice the time to do it. But that probably won’t be for a bit. It was about 2 years between Kokou no Hito ending and Innocent starting. So we’ll see how that goes. Also, everyone check out Archipel’s video interviewing Sakamoto-sensei if you haven’t. It’s great.

Oh, also, please let other folks know about this manga! I know some people may wait till a series is done to read it. But we’re just getting the series translated, we don’t have any sort of marketing. It really only gets spread by word of mouth. So if you like it, let people know!

Anyhow, till next time.

Innocent Rouge Volume 11

Ok, here we are at last, volume 11. This took kind of a while because we’ve all had a lot going on, but here it is.
Volume 12 is going to be the last one. All the chapters that’ll make up volume 12 are out in the magazine now, so I’ll probably start translating them soon. Volume 12 itself comes out February 19th, so not too long from now. We’ll try to get it done not too long after the fact.

Meanwhile we’re still working on all that other stuff.

Ok, whew. Been a while since the last one of these huh? That was back in the end of December.

So Innocent is NEARING the end. We’ll see how long it takes to get there. Lot of good art and interesting stuff in this. Sakamoto-sensei seems to be opting to telling some events out of sequence, which is kinda neat.

At the moment I’m focused on getting more Jojolion volume scanlations done, getting more Ikoku Nikki done, and getting more Takeshi done. Hopefully we should have a bunch from all those series for you soon.

Innocent Rouge Volume 9

Ok, we finally got this all done.
Here it is, the execution that everything’s been leading up to in this series for quite some time.
Also now Innocent Rouge is officially longer than the original Innocent! The original Innocent series had 9 volumes and this is the 9th volume of Rouge, and the series is still going.

There’s a bunch of other stuff this week with Neko ga Nishi Mukya and the new Gintama chapter, plus we’re working on the new 3-Gatsu no Lion volume that just came out. It’s all translated but we still need to do all the redrawing and typesetting. So there’s a lot going on and it’s eating up allllll my time. But once it’s done I can finally sleep. Hope you’re all looking forward to it!

Innocent Rouge Gaiden

Okay, so here’s a special extra chapter of Innocent Rouge! It was originally published in July of 2017 in Grand Jump Premium, and since has not been compiled in any volumes. The full title is ‘Queen Antoinette Visits the Mona Lisa’. So this is a magazine scanlation of a one-shot extra story that was done for a special exhibition setup by the Louvre museum called ‘Louvre No.9 ~Manga the 9th Art~’.Thanks a ton to Huldra for tracking down this magazine and scanning it. It’s got some really good artwork and a nice little story, I really hope you enjoy it.

Okay, it took a lot longer than I wanted it to, but we’re finally all done with Innocent Rouge Volume 7!
In this volume we at long last get into the real thick of the French Revolution and some of the major historical events happen. Though remember the story is mostly about the revolution from the perspective of the Sanson family, less so than the revolution itself.
I hope you all enjoy. Next volume is set to come out “Spring 2018” so we’ll see you again around then.

Ok, here ya’ll are. We got this one done it’s great. It took like a month but it’s all done. Hope you enjoy.
Next one is scheduled for release in “Winter 2017” so… like I dunno December? Usually this series comes out on the 19th of the month so I dunno how it can come out in Winter 2017. Maybe January 19th they still consider “Winter 2017”.

The real-life events that are depicted in the second half of this volume are pretty interesting. There’s an article on how it went here.

Also I can’t upload to the Direct Download site until I can get in touch with Qpax, who is notoriously hard to get in contact with, because I can’t upload to it for some reason.

Edit: That’s all fixed now. Should be a lot easier to contact Qpax in the future as well. Also Qpax has a youtube channel so check that out. https://www.youtube.com/user/PhoenixUtsuho/
