Ok, well, we decided to pick this up.
This is the first chapter of new series by Urushibara Yuki, author of Mushishi. It’s called Neko ga Nishi Mukya (If the Cat Faces West).
If you haven’t read Mushishi or watched the anime, please go check them out. They’re a real experience and some of the best anime and manga have to offer.
She also did a short series called Suiiki a few years ago. This is her first new series since 2010 though. It’s been quite a while and I’ve been really looking forward to it. So I asked the group if they wanted to work on it and a bunch did so here we are.
She just started this series this month in the last issue of Monthly Afternoon. This is the first chapter so… I won’t say anything about it. But it’s got a similar magical realism style to her previous works while still feeling like a very new experience. The first issue had 2 chapters in it, so we’ll be doing the next one soon. However this is a bi-monthly series. It only appears in every OTHER issue of Monthly Afternoon. So only once every 2 months.
We might do volume versions of this in the future, we’ll see. Kodansha’s digital raws are much better than Shueisha’s though so they look very good already.
I hope all goes well. We haven’t picked up an ongoing series from chapter 1 in a while. Enjoy, everybody!

Hmm…looks like romance. The romance was the only thing I disliked about Mushishi (realistic and boring but somehow still sappy – the worst combination, imo), though thankfully it didn’t involve Ginko. These two are clearly the protagonists, so… Well, we’ll see.
Thanks for picking it up!
A working cat? those are rare even in fiction.
Looking forward to more of this. Thanks.
Feels nostalgic 🙂
Thanks for pick this up 😀

Always in need of Urushibara Yuki’s work. Thanks a lot <3
Thank you so much for this. Big fan from Yuki-sensei’s works.
