Ok, ok, oook, I think I finally did it.
Here we are, 3-Gatsu no Lion volume 14.
I’m real exhausted. I translated this all in advance in the weeks leading up to the volume coming out (on 22nd of December). Then spent most of my free time after that getting it cleaned, redrawn, and typeset. Thanks a ton for Huldra and Lyndis helping out on one of the cleaning and typesetting respectively.

So, if you just wanna go read the series, go check it out. There’s one thing unrelated that I wanted to address that I’m going to mention here. If anyone’s wondering, the reason we don’t try to do these with issue chapters is a few things. They should be fairly obvious but I’ll post them here in case anyone isn’t sure.
1. I don’t have time. I’m doing this all mainly by myself and it’s a huge amount of work. Doing that would be even more work and time and it would be another thing I’d need to focus on all year, rather than just once at the end of the year.
2. There are issues with getting the raw magazine chapters. The physical magazine comes out before the digital magazine by 2 weeks. So if we wanted to do it AS SOON as it was available in Japan it would be very time consuming as we’d need to go physically buy the issues of Young Animal and scan them. And the physical magazine’s print quality is worse than the digital versions. Also the series also doesn’t run in every issue, and it’s sort of random which issues it does run in. You’d need to check the official website’s preview for the next issue every issue to know if it had 3-Gatsu in it so you know whether to get it or not.
3. The volumes are the highest quality version by a long shot. Besides the much better resolution from scanning the physical volume, Umino-sensei makes a number of edits on every chapter, so there’s textual differences (Both character lines and artwork gets changed). Plus the extras added in between chapters and at the beginning and the end. You could consider the volumes the “finalized, archival” versions. We’d rather work on the best version possible. Also trying to do both volumes AND the magazine versions would be exceedingly more time consuming, as you’d need to clean and redraw everything twice on top of getting both raws. Plus you’d need to transfer over all the old typesetting and add in any and all differences.

That said if someone wants to do all that, take responsibility for getting the magazine raws and cleaning and typesetting them when they come out, I could do those as well, but otherwise I won’t have time. And I really don’t expect anyone to do that at this point.

Hey so this is the 2nd of the 3-Gatsu no Lion fanbooks. If you’re interested in what we’re doing here, see the post I made on the first one.
As before, we’re only including manga by Umino Chika in this. We also included a couple bonus single-page drawings other artists in Young Animal did that were included in the book. Most of the other contents we didn’t do are recaps, cooking recipes, and some interviews.

So this is the last of the fanbooks that’ve been published thus far. This covers up to volume 11. So most likely at some point in the future there will be an “advanced” guidebook. But thus far none has been announced.
As for the next volume of 3-Gatsu no Lion, volume 14, that still doesn’t have a release date. However the official Twitter has said that the chapter that appeared in Young Animal last week should be the last chapter appearing in volume 14 (That should be chapter 153). So it should get a release date soon. Probably the end of October. I’m probably going to start translating those chapters soon using the digital raws from the mangazine to get a jump on it once the actual volume comes out. So look forward to that.

Ok, whew.
Well everyone, here’s this year’s 3-Gatsu no Lion volume!
Thanks a ton to Kimkimh for helping with a little of the cleaning/redrawing and Nuengti for all the help proofreading.
Though I did everything else. And it took a while, I’ve been working on this almost every day for a month.
Umino-sensei has gotten into a trend of having MANY chapters but all of them very short. So this is 13 chapters long, but the chapters themselves total only 160-something pages.

But anyhow, I love this series, I hope everyone checks it out and lets other people know about it. Also check out the anime which is airing its 2nd season now.

Well after a good couple of months of doing this and Innocent whenever I wasn’t doing Gintama or JoJolion, I’m finally free.
I’m gonna relax a bit and then get back to work on more Takeshi and 81diver.

Woo, ok. Now at long last we’re REALLY caught up. This volume came out in Japan about a month ago. And I’ve been working on it all month to get it fully translated, scanned, cleaned, typeset and checked, and now we’re finally done (I translated it in advance from the digital magazine, but there are things changed/added to the volumes). Thanks a lot of Katyusha for helping typeset and checking.

Ok, so, here’s a little explanation for those not aware. 3-Gatsu no Lion is a series that runs in the bi-weekly magazine Young Animal (The same magazine as Berserk). But it also runs irregularly (as in not in every issue) and generally only finishes 1 volume a year, usually released around September-October. The chapters we’re releasing now are the ones that were appearing in the magazine as we were finishing the other volumes earlier this year. But now we’re all caught up (except for one chapter that just came out, the chapter that’ll probably be the first volume of volume 13). A digital version for it comes out about a week after the physical magazine, which I can get, but I really just don’t have time to try to do this series on the irregular basis of “whenever it shows up in the magazine”. Plus I don’t have time for the added work of trying to make digital raws look good and I especially don’t have time to also redo them with better, scanned volume raws later. I just don’t have time to try to do something involved and time-sensitive like that in my life right now (Just doing Gintama and Toriko right now is a major compromise, and it’ll be a huge load off once those end, whenever that may be). As I’ve mentioned before in posts about this series, I’ve got almost no staff besides me doing this. And that’s a major time sink for an adult working a full time job to put into a hobby. So I’m going to continue just doing it on a per-volume basis. That also means we’ll be able to focus on making it the highest quality possible rather than trying to make low-resolution raws look good and do multiple drafts to make the translation good.

Besides that, there are 2 “Fan Books” which are essentially summaries of old material. Though there’s a bit of new material I might translate. Umino-sensei wrote new original omake comics in those so I may try to translate them at some point, just not immediately.

Anyhow, I hope you all enjoy this. I have Innocent Rouge V4 and the rest of 81diver to finish now (Also the Jojo novel The Book). Maybe once those are done I may have time to pick up a new project if it seems like there’s time. I have a few ideas but I’m not totally sure which which I’d want to go with yet.

Everything’s almost done. Basically the way these went was I did them one job at a time. Some of it was waiting for BWYS that ultimately didn’t pan out, but it’s not like I’m doing these all in a week. Rather it took 6 months of working every day to get them all done. And before that a couple years of ~1 per week.

Edit: 3-4 was a copy of 1-2 somehow. Anyhow that’s fixed. Also fixed some typos.

Whew, ok so this volume’s finally all done. I’m really glad how it turned out. It’s really just been me and Orthio working on it so I hope you all enjoy. I’ve only got 1 volume left to typeset so for the most part all that’s left is quality checking, so the last 3 volumes shouldn’t take too long hopefully.
