Toriko 165 and Gintama 378 Release

Here’s a cool thing.

Okay, so we got raws late and then I had a fuckton to do when we finally got them. Most likely we’re getting raws late because the raw provider’s busy, so whenever he stops being busy then stuff’ll come out earlier in the week like normal. Probably. In the meantime, I have not slept more than 4 hours in 3 days and just spent all night finishing these so they wouldn’t be delayed any longer so I’m going to sleep now.

Toriko 164 and Gintama 377 Release

A battle with allies…

Ok, these are done. So like I said, it took a long time to get the raws for various reasons. And people have other parts of their life scheduled later in the week. Hopefully nothing like that’ll happen this week. Anyhow, these chapters are good, enjoy.

Gintama Volume 40 Release

Hanging out on a Fall day…

The weekly chapters are gonna be delayed this week because we haven’t got any raws yet. Our raw provider barely ever tells me anything, so I don’t know why, but we just need to wait until he gets them.

But since I didn’t have to work on those in the last couple days, I was able to finally finish Gintama V40. I really wanted to get this done a lot earlier, but real life problems kept cropping up that made it too hard for me to work on it a lot, so my jobs kept getting delayed. But everyone else worked hard and got their jobs finished, now it’s done. This volume contains chapters 344-352. Volume 41 is the Renhou Arc and Volume 42 is the Mimawarigumi Arc, plus a couple other chapters. Volume 41 is 353-360 and Volume 42 has 361-370, so once we finish those we’ll just need to do 371 and we’ll have the whole gap filled in. Then we can continue to go back to the earlier volumes we have a couple chapters done with, and we’ll continue to redo the issue scanlations with volume versions once they come out, because that’s fairly easy. Volume 41 is really action-y so it shouldn’t take as long to translation check through, and it’s mostly cleaned already, so hopefully that won’t take as long.

Oh, an if anyone’s interested, there’s nothing of much importance in the Toriko Gourmet Hunting Book. It’s pretty much like most databooks in that it’s just recapping the series with information that’s already known put into pretty infographic styles. It also contains the Toriko One Piece collaboration and the original one shot from 2002 (different from the One-Shot from 2008 which was in the Toriko Gaiden book). We might try doing the one-shot and a HQ version of the collab later on, when we’re doing volume scanlations of Toriko.

Toriko 163 and Gintama 375 Release

Darkness encircles…

Ok, so we had some delays this week. First we got the raws a day late because of an issue with the raw provider, then Toriko had a couple more pages than normal because it has the opening color pages this week, and those color pages take a lot more time to clean because you need to remove insert texts and redraw the pictures underneath in color.
And Gintama is Gintama. Volume 40’s almost done, I’m gonna try to get that done soon. Just a little left in each step.
There’s no Toriko running in Shounen Jump next week, so the next chapter will be two weeks from now.
Aaaand Happy Halloween everybody…

Please don’t rehost for 24 hours except mangareader.

Gintama 372 Release

Something’s definitely not right here…

In our ongoing efforts to work ourselves to death, we here at Hi Wa Mata Noboru have decided to try scanlating the issues of Gintama as they come out in Jump, starting with this week, while simultaneously working on catching up through the volumes. A two-fronted attack to try and get through the series and do it well. We think we have the resources to comfortably do this now. Hopefully we can keep it up, we’ll see. Thanks to Bomber D Rufi for translating it on short notice, and benii for cleaning it on short notice. But we think doing this will be slightly more efficient, because we can check over Rufi’s chapters right after he translates them, and we can keep one part of this on a fixed schedule, while filling in a fixed gap, rather than one that gets bigger every week.

V40 is most of the way through in pretty much every stage.

By the way, this chapter’s freakin’ awesome.

Gintama Volume 39 Release

Because eventually, the sun will shine again.

Whew. All right. So here we have this.
If you don’t care about the process at all, just scroll past this. Cause I’m gonna explain a lot.
Like I said in the last couple Gintama posts, the system we’ve been using to try to catch up in the series hasn’t been working. Gintama is an extremely wordy series. That takes a huge amount of time to translate, translation check (which basically means translating again and adapting the original script to a correct version.) and typsetting. And there’s a decently large amount of time cleaning, too, because of all the redrawing. So in order to get this series done faster those jobs need to be done in parallel as much as possible. So now we have 2 active typsetters working on this, Kitty Shinigami and MooNi. One cleaner, Benii, and me. Bomber D Rufi did the original translations a long time ago, but they take extensive editing in order to be scanlate-able. Which is what I’m doing, and that takes a very long time. No matter how much I try I really can’t do more than one chapter in a day, and I have several other projects I work on weekly. Also, I need to check through the typsetting when it’s done and edit it so it’s consistent and every English font matches the Japanese fonts. That and manage everything and distribute the work to the people who need it. Also I scan all the volumes and translate Sorachi’s long rants and Q&As in between the chapters. So in order to get this series done faster, from now until we get to the end of what’s released in volumes, we’re gonna release these as entire volumes (There’re just 2 more. 40 and 41. 42 comes out in November).
This way, rather than doing them one or two chapters at a time, then sending them to be typeset or waiting for the next one to be cleaned, and stopping, everyone’s working on their job more or less constantly. Before it was getting too much into the trend of “Get to this point and wait for the next person so we can release 1-2 chapters.” For this, the cleaning got done mostly in advance, and I started translation checking early on without waiting for them to be finished. Then when both the translation checking and cleaning were done I sent that to the typesetters to typeset, alternating with each person so they had a few days to do them. And I would keep going on translation checking and I knew that I wouldn’t end up having to wait for a job to get done later on, or switch to editing the typesetting, so I wouldn’t be wasting time delaying a release. Then in the last 3 days I did all the typesetting editing and translating the chapter in-betweens. In short, this way it’s more efficient because jobs can be done in a row without stopping and also without wasting time waiting for other people to finish. And people get less demotivated to work ahead because things are moving in parallel and get done faster. The only downside is that the actual release doesn’t occur until the end of the volume. So I hope you guys understand. This way it should take a lot less time per chapter in the long run. And this should be the most realistic way we’ll be able to catch up with this series.

Moving away from all that, this volume contains chapters 335-343. It’s got the other half of the Hedoro Bathouse arc, it has the Gin Fucks Everyone arc, and the Corrupt Warden arc. Also a one-off chapter. That’s what I call them anyways. Enjoy guys.

Volume 40’s already scanned and being cleaned. I’m gonna go get to work translation checking it now.
I”m putting the whole volume to download here. But I’ll put up links to the individual chapters, too, for consistency’s sake. Really, I dunno why’d you’d wanna download 9 different links otherwise.
