If you haven’t seen it yet, check out our HQ scanlation of volume 2 we finished a little while ago. Volume 3’s release date was just set for April 18th, by the way. This chapter, 12, is probably the chapter that volume 3 ends with.

In the meantime, I’m working on Shima volume 7. DRCL volume 4 is out in Japan now, and I think that’s the last volume of that series we’re going to do. I’m also working on that but it’ll take a while, I’m not really in a rush to do it. Next chapter of Jojo comes out on March 19th Japan time. Enjoy the chapter, folks!

Happy New Year, folks! Here we are, here is our high-quality volume version of The JOJOLands volume 2! As we did with volume 1, this is scanned from the volume at high resolution. The physical volumes are the highest quality source available, way more than the digital versions, which have MUCH lower resolution and look way worse overall due to how they’re compressed (We also don’t want to use AI-upscaling or anything like that which I just generally think is a bad idea since you’re changing the art at that point). We’re releasing these at 2560px tall which is a lot more than we did for JoJolion since I think folks would prefer the somewhat higher resolution over it taking up more space.

This contains chapters 4-8 so that covers everything in the magazine that came out up to September. For the most part it’s all the same except for the author flap and intro pages and a couple little sketches and a description of the cats and their Stand in the middle. Besides that it’s just like a couple sound effects were added and we spruced a couple tiny things up a little text-wise. These take a lot of effort to do because we need to do a lot more manual work on physical pages, but I think this ended up looking really good.

The next volume is just set for “Spring 2024”, so that could be any time from March to May and should contain chapters 9-12 probably. And chapters 11 and 12 aren’t out in the magazine yet. Speaking of which chapter 11 is set to come out at midnight on the 18th Japan time, so we’ll be working on that soon.

The JOJOLands Volume 2 (Ch. 5-8)

Here we are, at the last The JOJOLands chapter of the year, chapter 10. This one’s a pretty good one, I hope you all like it. This also has a color cover illustration. Next chapter is in the next issue of Ultra Jump which comes out on January 19th Japan time. Also Volume 2 just came out in Japan, so we’ll be working on that. As usual we need to physically scan it and clean it to get it at the highest available quality so it’ll take some time, especially with various end-of-year stuff taking up a lot of our time. Also volume 3 is scheduled for “Spring 2024”.

There IS another 3-Gatsu no Lion chapter this month apparently which should be later this week. Seems they did two in a row despite not saying “Continues next issue” at the end like they did last time. Also I’m in the middle of translating Division Chief Shima Kōsaku volume 5 so maybe we’ll be able to finish that before the end of the year, too. But if I don’t see you, I hope you have happy holidays and a happy new year, folks.

Edit: Never mind, apparently there ISN’T any 3-Gatsu no Lion in that issue. They listed it on the next-issue preview page last issue but there’s no actual 3-Gatsu no Lion chapter there. That’s a bit annoying when you’re trying to plan your time out to work on it… Oh well! Next year it is.

Aaand after a break last month, here is The JOJOLands chapter 9! If you haven’t seen it yet, please check out the volume version of volume 1 we did a little while back. This chapter continues right where we left off right in the midst of things so you may wanna reread chapter 8 if you forgot what was happening there. Volume 2 comes out in Japan next month on December 19th. So once the volume is out we’ll be working on our scanlation of volume 2 which will probably take a bit because it’s coming out right in the middle of the holidays. Chapter 10 should be coming out at the same time on December 19th Japan time as well.

Otherwise we’re almost done with Division Chief Shima Kōsaku volume 4. I’m hoping we can get that out within the next week possibly. Anyhow that’s it, see you next month!

Aaand here is chapter 8! This was a very Jojo-y week, with now this right after finishing volume 1. I really liked this chapter, it had some great character moments. There’s no new The JOJOLands chapter next issue of Ultra Jump, so the next chapter won’t be until the following month, and it set to come out November 17th Japan time. So after all that at once we’ll get a nice break and I can work on some other things and get normal human amounts of sleep hopefully.

Uhhh everything else is still at about the same stage as it was on Thursday. We’re working on 3-Gatsu no Lion volume 17 and Division Chief Shima Kōsaku volume 3. Also the next 3-Gatsu no Lion chapter comes out soon on September 22nd Japan time, so pretty soon. Anyhow, enjoy!

Whew, ok well we finally have made it to a fully completed volume of The JOJOLands. This took a whole ton of effort to get everything as good as it could be and I am now totally exhausted.

For those that are unfamiliar, volumes of Jojo typically come out several months after their chapters come out. Usually around 2 or 3 volumes a year, generally containing 4 or 5 chapters. For all of our releases we’re scanning the physical raws which are the highest quality and resolution raw source, which takes a while to manually clean and redraw compared to the digital ones. That’s in addition to the fact that it has to be scanned and it’s about 200 pages all at once. Typically these volumes have more image data on the tops and bottoms of the pages and a little bit cut from the sides of the pages relative to the magazine version and also include any changes Araki-sensei decided to make after the release of the magazine versions. They also include the cover and extra pages between the chapters with little drawings. They’re generally considered the “definitive” or “archival” versions of the manga. At least until some sort of kanzenban/collector’s edition comes out. They also look slightly different from the digital versions due to how Shuueisha compresses their images. For some reason they tend to sorta blur them in a weird specific way that makes white dots on dark fields look sorta “more prominent” (It’s sorta hard to explain just through text). For these we’re using larger pixel dimensions for The JOJOLands than we did with JoJolion. These are 2560 pixels tall, whereas our JoJolion ones were 1400 pixel tall. So they’re a higher resolution than those were with the tradeoff of having a bit larger file size (Regardless both versions are way way higher res than the digital versions).

The next The JOJOLands chapter is slated to come out on the 19th Japan time, so only a few days from now. There’s also a new 3-Gatsu no Lion chapter coming out next week and we’re working on scanlating 3-Gatsu no Lion volume 17 as well. I’m also working on Division Chief Shima Kōsaku volume 3 and I’m somewhere a little past the half way point in translating that right now. Between Jojo, 3-Gatsu, and DRCL volumes all coming out around the same time it’s taken up a lot of my time so Shima is taking a bit longer. Also a lot of these Shima chapters are really hard because of all the discussion about the wine industry. Anyhow, I hope you enjoy, everyone.

Here we are at chapter 7! The jungle warfare continues!
Volume 1 of The JOJOLands came out a day before this posted. As we did with JoJolion we’re gonna do physical scans and better-ized versions of the digital magazine versions with the much-better-quality physical volume raws. Though it’ll take some time as we need to scan and clean all 200-ish pages. But we’ll try to finish it in not TOO long.

The next 3-Gatsu no Lion chapter comes out in the next issue of Young Animal which comes out on August 25th Japan time. And then on the 29th, volume 17 of 3-Gatsu no Lion comes out. So we’ll be busy doing volume versions for both of these series. And as usual I’m working on Shima Kōsaku when I’ve got time. Still only at the beginning of volume 3 right now. And here we are at chapter 6! Uhh more stuff happens. The continuation of what’s basically the first arc of stealing the diamond. Next month The JOJOLands volume 1 finally comes out, so we’ll be doing that scanning the physical volume as we did with Jojolion. It comes out at the same time as the next chapter in Ultra Jump comes out, August 19th, which should have The JOJOLands on the cover. Actually for some reason apparently the volume comes out on August 18th an the next issue of the magazine comes out August 19th. So not QUITE the same day.

So there’s a bunch of other stuff coming up now. We’re working on DRCL midnight children volume 3 which I decided I’m gonna do after debating dropping the series since it’s licensed, though that may be the last one we do.

The last volume of Ikoku Nikki comes out on August 8th so we’ll be doing that, which should finish off that series assuming there isn’t a sequel or bonus chapter/volume or anything.

There hasn’t been any new 3-Gatsu no Lion chapters in Young Animal lately but a new volume of that comes out on August 29th so there’s likely going to be at least one new chapter around then. Also we’re going to do the volume scanlation and those always take a lot of work for 3-Gatsu because of all the changes Umino-sensei makes from magazine to volume.

I’m also working on Division Chief Shima Kōsaku volume 2 which is taking a while because the beginning of Division Chief is just really difficult to translate. There’s a lot of research that needs to be done for a lot of really specific business knowledge so it takes longer than usual. But I’m most of the way done now so that may not take too long.
