And now, on to volume 19. If you read V18 you’ll see the story’s getting a bit darker. That continues. There’s still plenty of comedy though.

We’re now 200 chapters in! Thanks as always to high8sky for all her work and getting these done. Some really good typesetting in this one. The typesetting of this series in Japanese gets crazier and crazier as the series goes on. It’s no easy task.

Ok, so quick update on stuff.

I finished translating The Book, finally, after 5 and a half years. And now it’s in the editing process, which is the last step before releasing it. I’m having a couple people read over it and help me edit it and improve some of the earlier parts which I did back in late 2011 early 2012 so the phrasing and such isn’t as good as my current level. Speaking of which, anyone with novel editing experience who wants to volunteer to help with that, let me know. My email’s kewl0210@gmail.com

Since I finished that I’m gonna try to get back to doing Takeshi chapters on a regular basis. Sorry it’s been so slow going, I’d really like to get them done regularly, but I haven’t really had the time between The Book, Jojolion, 81diver stuff, Innocent stuff, and Gintama every week.

I also wanna get that other Shimabukuro one-shot out soon that came out a few months ago in Saikyo Jump.

Also, the next 81diver volume should be out pretty soon. I’ve translated up to V23, so now that I’m finishing up The Book I’m hoping to get back to translating that series soon, as I’ve still got 12 volumes left.

Also, I did an interview with Kotaku about scanlating. If you’re interested in reading that sort of thing, it’s here.

Though they interviewed a bunch of people besides me, and most of the answers I gave weren’t used. Also I don’t think the title is very good, I don’t think most people they interviewed were “having trouble going legit”. That’s just NJT, the founder of Mangahelpers who has been trying to do that.

Woo, here we are, the next one. Thanks a ton for high8sky working so hard to get this one out so quick.

We are now finally PAST THE HALF WAY POINT OF 81 DIVER! The series has 35 volumes, making the half-way point half way point 17 and a half volumes. Woo! I hope the rest of the second half goes okay.

I’m slowly moving along working on The Book Jojo novel. Getting close to the end now. I’m trying to finish that out before doing anything else for a bit. Besides weekly Gintama of course.

Ok, we’ve got the next one of these done, much faster than the time it took for the last one. Thanks to high8sky anyhow.

This is a really good volume. It consists mostly of a battle of wills between Sugata and Jones Lee. One of the more memorable battles in the series, IMHO.

So, I just found out about this recently. They made a pachinko machine based on 81diver and it has some fully-animated/voiced scenes from the manga in it. I thought that was pretty cool, since it’s one way of seeing the series animated despite it never having an anime. Also this only just came out in January of this year (2017), which seems kinda odd since the manga ended in 2014. And the drama adaptation ended back in 2008. There were also a couple video games in 2009.
Pachinko and pachislot machines in Japan are kinda crazy. They’re a weird form of entertainment that work like slot machines in casinos. Crazy stuff with loud flashes and sounds, often done with a screen and a theme like this.

Some of it even has scenes from this volume! There may be some slight spoilers like a couple characters that haven’t appeared yet there, but you wouldn’t really be finding out anything ABOUT them story-wise. (It’s mostly just a bunch of loud flashes and dramatic shouting type of scenes). So check that out after you’ve read the new volume, if you’re interested.
