Hey so here’s a fun thing I did. We redid the beginning of 81diver, so now we’ve released the full series, all volumes 1-35 with this group. We finished the last volume and the one-volume spinoff in summer of 2018. This was something I wanted to do for a while but I had all my time occupied by doing weekly manga, then catching up on things when they were all done, then redoing Kokou no Hito and Gintama volumes. I figured if we’ve done 90% of the series, it feels worth it to go back and do our own version of the first 10% at some point. I started this like a year ago and then didn’t have time to finish because I had Gintama volume updates to do. Now that that’s nearly done and it’s just checking the last few volumes, I finally had time to finish this up.
This also contains some fixes and stylistic updates for volumes 1-4. Now the whole series has a uniform style and it improves upon the handful of chapters done by small groups which weren’t very good. These are using the same pretty-good-quality public raws that were also used for the other scanlations.
We’ve found some tools that allow us to update/upload stuff quickly and easily find typos and little errors so I used them on all of these. I think the quality is good, and the translation is better now because originally these chapters were translated back in 2011. I’ll probably go through V5-35 at some point soonish and fix up any other such textual issues. I’ll make a news post about it when that’s done. We might do that for some of our older series, since it’s a fairly quick task. Mainly it’s running these automations and then checking to see if the typesetting got messed up at all due to changes in line breaks and sentence length.
This series is a lot of fun because of the wacky artstyle and the comedy combined with the weird text style. Originally I was working on this series with the group Utopia Scans before they stopped working on it, then we tried a few other groups, all of which gave up after one or two chapters, and then we started just doing it ourselves, which we did all the way to the end. We’d already released the second half of volume 4 (ch35-38), so this one completes it. Anyhow, that’s all for this. We’ve finished the whole series. Go download the whole thing or read it on a reader. I’m gonna go back to fixing Gintama volumes up.
Also, we have a Discord! Come hang out and talk about manga. https://discord.gg/Nw45rfJYZF
